Speculative checkpoints for recurrent models (#1669)
* server: spec checkpoints for recurrent models

* fix: save/restore sampler state during speculative checkpoint

When speculative decoding rejects draft tokens and restores the
recurrent state checkpoint, the sampler (RNG, grammar, prev tokens)
must also be restored to maintain consistency. Without this, the
sampler state reflects the rejected draft tokens, leading to
potential divergence.

Uses common_sampler_clone() to snapshot the sampler before the
speculative batch decode, and restores it on rejection.

* server: snapshot recurrent state in tensor

* reset ngram mod state for rejected tokens

* server: refactor checkpoint state logic

* speculative: fix sampler for checkpoints

* recurrent model: implement recurrent kernel checkpoint

* recurrent model: refactor api

* spec: free rbudget before overwriting

Fix infinite tool calls loop with `--parallel-tool-calls` (#1679)
Previously, the end-of-turn token would be added to prompt cache by
`slot.cache_tokens.push_back(slot.sampled)`, without going through
`llama_decode()` first. As such, the token doesn't exist yet in the
actual KV cache. Then, in the next turn, processing of this EOT token
will be skipped since it is already in the prompt cache.

The expected sequence (with Qwen3.5 chat template):

    </tool_call><|im_end|>
    <|im_start|>user
    <tool_response>

The actual sequence that the model sees:

    </tool_call>
    <|im_start|>user
    <tool_response>

As the conversation goes on, the model starts losing the ability to
generate an EOT token after `</tool_call>`, since it hasn't seen this
pattern in the context. With `--parallel-tool-calls`, the grammar
allows `</tool_call>` to be followed by either another tool call or an
EOT token. So, this eventually leads to the model making infinite tool
calls.

We fix this by deferring all the processing of the EOT token to the
next turn.

server: fix ret=-3 on hybrid/recurrent prompt cache, and clear sticky stop flag (#1673)
Two related issues that manifest as 'llama_decode ret=-3' on hybrid
architectures (e.g. Qwen3.5/3.6 MoE, Qwen3-Next), matching the symptom
reported in #1576.

1) server_context::apply_checkpoint() was written around transformer KV
   semantics (pos_min / pos_max per-token window). For hybrid and pure
   recurrent models the per-token pos_min threshold does not apply: the
   recurrent state is a single snapshot, and the server-side checkpoint
   is a whole-prefix record. The old selector 'cur.pos_min < pos_min_thold'
   can succeed on a checkpoint whose pos_max is past the current n_past,
   and — more commonly — fall through to do_reset = true, which zeros
   slot.n_past / slot.n_past_prompt. Zeroing in-place while the recurrent
   state in the context is still populated makes the next decode batch
   disagree with the live state, returning ret=-3.

   This change gates the checkpoint path on
   llama_model_has_recurrent(llama_get_model(slot.ctx)):
   - selector uses pos_max <= slot.n_past && pos_max < pos_next
     (whole-prefix match, leaves at least one token to decode);
   - on miss, slot state is preserved rather than zeroed, letting
     update_slots() continue from the already-valid n_past_prompt;
   - the erase loop drops any checkpoint whose pos_max > pos_next,
     matching the rewind semantics for recurrent state.

   Transformer behavior is unchanged.

2) stop_internal_decode is a file-static global in src/llama.cpp, set by
   llama_decode_stop() (called on client disconnect) and polled inside
   the decode loop to bail out with ret=-3. The flag is only cleared on
   one conditional path in server_slot::release(), so a stop signal that
   arrives after the interrupted llama_decode() has already returned
   bleeds into the NEXT decode call and causes an immediate ret=-3 with
   no work performed. Clear it at the top of the public llama_decode()
   entry so the signal is scoped to the in-flight decode it was meant
   for.

Build-verified: llama-server with GGML_CUDA=ON, -DCMAKE_CUDA_ARCHITECTURES=86
(sm_86), IQK flash-attn + matmul enabled. No new APIs introduced —
llama_model_has_recurrent is already public and already used elsewhere in
server-context.cpp.

common/json-schema: fix: handle non-capturing groups (?:...) in JSON schema pattern converter (#21124)

The regex-to-grammar converter in _visit_pattern() crashes with SIGSEGV
when a JSON schema "pattern" field contains a non-capturing group (?:...).

Root cause: when the parser sees '(' followed by '?', it pushes a warning
but does not advance past '?:'. The recursive transform() call then
interprets '?' as a quantifier and calls seq.back() on an empty vector,
causing undefined behavior.

This commonly occurs when serving OpenAI-compatible tool calls from
clients that include complex regex patterns in their JSON schemas (e.g.,
date validation patterns like ^(?:(?:\d\d[2468][048]|...)-02-29|...)$).

The fix:
- Skip '?:' after '(' to treat non-capturing groups as regular groups
- For unsupported syntax (?=, ?!, etc.), skip to matching ')' safely,
  handling escaped characters to avoid miscounting parenthesis depth
- Adjust the ')' unbalanced-parentheses check using direct char
  comparisons instead of substr
- Add test cases for non-capturing groups (C++ only, as the JS/Python
  implementations do not yet support this syntax)

jinja : handle empty expressions correctly (#20913)

* Reject empty computed member expressions before returning slices[0] from parse_member_expression_arguments().

* Treat empty computed member expressions with Jinja2 undefined semantics

Treat empty computed member expressions like `a[]` as undefined instead of
raising a parser error, to match Jinja2 behavior.

- return a noop expression for empty computed member arguments
- return undefined when a computed member key evaluates to undefined
- add Jinja tests covering `a[]|default('fallback')` and `a[] is undefined`

* Handle undefined computed member properties

Move undefined-property handling to the common member access path, and add a test covering `a[undefined] is undefined`.

* Use default undefined value in member access

Initialize val and then return it when property is undefined.

jinja : support ensure_ascii=true, string repetition and int/float self-filtering (#21623)

* feat: jinja engine improvements for reka-edge

Port three Jinja engine improvements needed for the reka-edge model:
1. Python-style string repetition ("ab" * 3 → "ababab")
2. ensure_ascii=true support for tojson filter (escapes non-ASCII to \uXXXX)
3. int() builtin on value_int_t (identity, needed for Reka Edge template)

* fix: escape invalid utf8 bytes when ensure_ascii=true

The json_ensure_ascii_preserving_format function does not correctly
handle an edge case where if UTF-8 parsing fails, it adds the non-ascii
character back to the output as a raw byte.

This commit fixes that by adding the unicode standard replacement
character \\ufffd to the output instead. This is the standard behavior
for various programming languages like Python, Rust, Go, etc.

common/gemma4 : handle parsing edge cases (#21760)

common: skip reasoning budget sampler when no budget is requested (#21870)

* common: skip reasoning budget sampler when no budget is requested

After I added thinking_start_tag / thinking_end_tag for gemma4 in #21697, the reasoning budget sampler gets unconditionally created even when no budget is configured (the default -1). The same applies to kimi_k2, lfm2, lfm2_5, and ministral_3 which also set these tags. The budget gets converted to INT_MAX, so the sampler never actually forces any tokens but still runs per-token checks (start tag matching in IDLE state, token-to-piece conversion + UTF-8 checks in COUNTING state).

More importantly, the mere existence of the sampler (non-null rbudget) disables backend sampling. Backend sampling lets the GPU select tokens directly, avoiding a full logits transfer from GPU to CPU every token. This could explain the 30% speed regression reported in #21784 (98 t/s to 70 t/s on Vulkan).

So I added a reasoning_budget_tokens >= 0 check to the sampler creation condition. When the budget is unlimited, the sampler is not created, backend sampling stays enabled, and no per-token overhead is added. When a budget is explicitly set (0, 128, 1024, etc.), the sampler is created and works as before.

* common: preserve rbudget when grammar is lazy

Following up on the review feedback on #21870: keep the reasoning budget sampler when grammar_lazy is true, so the thinking-block grammar suppression from #20970 still works when tools are in use. This way, we only skip the sampler when both no budget is set AND grammar is not lazy.

* wip: port MTP architecture

Ports the Multi-Token Prediction (MTP) architecture to the older `llama.cpp` codebase used by `ikllama`.

- Modifying `llama_decode_internal` (and `encode`) to handle MTP operations (Warmup, Update, Draft).
- Adding public APIs for MTP state management (`llama_set_draft_input_hidden_state`).
- Adapting the embedding extraction logic to skip MTP update passes.

* Refactors `server_slot` to support generic speculative decoding (MTP or Draft Model).

* core: enable hybrid outputs (logits + embeddings) for MTP support

* fix(mtp): correct KV-cache slot finding for updates

The jinja template parser was missing the 'in' test from
global_builtins(), causing templates using reject("in", ...),
select("in", ...), or 'x is in(y)' to fail with
"selectattr: unknown test 'in'".

This broke tool-calling for Qwen3-Coder and any other model
whose chat template uses the 'in' test.

Added test_is_in supporting array, string, and object containment
checks, mirroring the existing 'in' operator logic in runtime.cpp.

Includes test cases for all three containment types plus
reject/select filter usage.

chat: fix case where template accepts type content only (#19419)

mtmd : chat : Fix extra \n between text and media marker (#19595)

Thanks to @tugot17 for detecting and reporting the issue.

For vision models (e.g. LFM2.5-VL-1.6B and Qwen/Qwen3-VL-4B-Instruct) `llama-mtmd-cli` produces identical output to HF implementation.

However `llama-server` doesn't. I traced it down to extra newline
inserted after `<__media__>`.

This happens in `to_json_oaicompat`, that treats media markers as text
and joins all parts with `\n` separator.

PR introduces new type `media_marker` and uses it for media markers.
Extra logic is added to prevent insertion of newlines before and after
media markers.

With this change number of input tokens is identical to HF
implementation and as a result the output is also identical.

I explored other ways to address the issue
* remove completely `\n` between text parts in `to_json_oaicompat`
* merge text messages in server-common.cpp before sending them to `to_json_oaicompat`

Please propose alternative ways of fixing this issue.

server: propagate task index to response objects for batch requests (#1303)
When multiple prompts are sent in a single /v1/completions request,
each response needs to carry the correct index so the client can
match results to their corresponding prompts. The index field was
not being set on partial responses, final responses, or embedding
responses, causing batch results to all report index 0.

Set res->index = slot.task->index in send_partial_response,
send_final_response, and send_embedding.

Add MTP decoding support for GLM-4.x MoE (#1270)
* wip: port MTP architecture

Ports the Multi-Token Prediction (MTP) architecture to the older `llama.cpp` codebase used by `ikllama`.

Changes include:
- Updating `llama_batch` to support `mtp_params`.
- Modifying `llama_decode_internal` (and `encode`) to handle MTP operations (Warmup, Update, Draft).
- Adding public APIs for MTP state management (`llama_set_draft_input_hidden_state`).
- Adapting the embedding extraction logic to skip MTP update passes.

* Refactors `server_slot` to support generic speculative decoding (MTP or Draft Model).

* core: enable hybrid outputs (logits + embeddings) for MTP support

* fix(mtp): correct KV-cache slot finding for updates

* fix(mtp): persist hidden states to prevent context corruption during drafting

* refactor(mtp): clean unused code

* fix(mtp): update server to new functions name

* fix(mtp): fix graph and save hidden state

server: add dynamic control vector management endpoints (#1223)
This implements the ability to load, unload, and scale control vectors
(representation engineering) mid-inference, following the existing
task-queue pattern used by LoRA adapters.

New Endpoints:
- GET  /control-vectors
- POST /control-vectors/load
- POST /control-vectors/unload
- POST /control-vectors/apply (handles scaling)

Technical Notes:
- Centralizes vector aggregation logic to share implementation between
  load, unload, and apply tasks.
- Vectors are applied globally to the model context.
- Enforces dimension validation on load to safely reject incompatible
  vectors.

firecoperana 1cad1ec1cc Update grammar (#1023)
* grammar : fix JSON Schema for string regex with top-level alt. (#9903)

Prior to this commit, using a JSON Schema containing a string
with `pattern` regular expression that uses top-level alternation
(e.g. `"pattern": "^A|B|C|D$"`) would result in invalid JSON
output from the constrained sampling grammar, because it
ended up creating a grammar rule like this for the string:

```
thing ::= "\"" "A" | "B" | "C" | "D" "\"" space
```

Note that this rule will only match a starting quote for the "A" case,
and will only match an ending quote for the "D" case,
so this rule will always produce invalid JSON when used for sampling
(that is, the JSON will always be lacking the starting quote,
the ending quote, or both).

This was fixed in a simple way by adding parentheses to the
generated rule (for all string pattern rules, to keep it simple),
such that the new generated rule looks like this (correct):

```
thing ::= "\"" ("A" | "B" | "C" | "D") "\"" space
```

Branch: gabe-l-hart/GraniteDocling

* feat: Add tiling support for idefices3 in clip.cpp

This should likely be moved into llava_uhd::get_slice_instructions, but for
now this avoids disrupting the logic there.

Branch: gabe-l-hart/GraniteDocling

Signed-off-by: Gabe Goodhart <ghart@us.ibm.com>

* feat: Partial support for full templating for idefics3 in mtmd

There are still errors encoding some of the image chunks, but the token
sequence now matches transformers _almost_ perfectly, except for the double
newline before the global image which shows up as two consecutive newline
tokens instead of a single double-newline token. I think this is happening
because the blocks are tokenized separately then concatenated.

Branch: gabe-l-hart/GraniteDocling

* feat: Parse the preprocessor config's longest side and add it to the mmproj hparams

Branch: GraniteDocling

For Granite Docling, these come out to the same value, but that was just a
conicidence.

webui: auto-refresh /props on inference start to resync model metadata (#16784)

* webui: auto-refresh /props on inference start to resync model metadata

- Add no-cache headers to /props and /slots
- Throttle slot checks to 30s
- Prevent concurrent fetches with promise guard
- Trigger refresh from chat streaming for legacy and ModelSelector
- Show dynamic serverWarning when using cached data

* fix: restore proper legacy behavior in webui by using unified /props refresh

Updated assistant message bubbles to show each message's stored model when available,
falling back to the current server model only when the per-message value is missing

When the model selector is disabled, now fetches /props and prioritizes that model name
over chunk metadata, then persists it with the streamed message so legacy mode properly
reflects the backend configuration

* fix: detect first valid SSE chunk and refresh server props once

* fix: removed the slots availability throttle constant and state

- Adjusting the Vite configuration to resolve `katex-fonts` alias and inject SCSS variables.

* webui: add OAI-Compat Harmony tool-call live streaming visualization and persistence in chat UI

- Purely visual and diagnostic change, no effect on model context, prompt
  construction, or inference behavior

- Captured assistant tool call payloads during streaming and non-streaming
  completions, and persisted them in chat state and storage for downstream use

- Exposed parsed tool call labels beneath the assistant's model info line
  with graceful fallback when parsing fails

gapeleon f6163dd58f Fix: Register missing /apply-template endpoint (#999)
The handle_apply_template handler was defined but never registered as
  an HTTP endpoint, causing 404 errors when calling POST /apply-template.

  This commit adds the missing endpoint registration to match the
  functionality available in llama.cpp mainline.

Yap Sok Ann 7505165dee Fix truncated logprobs when streaming is off (#998)
The logic to skip the logprobs of the stop token was originally from
ggml-org/llama.cpp#2849, and was later modified as part of
ggml-org/llama.cpp#10643 to be applied only to STOP_TYPE_WORD.

The latter change wasn't included in #723. Then, after #958 got merged,
the logic got inadvertently applied to GLM-4.5/4.6 and Kimi K2,
resulting in truncated logprobs when streaming is off.

This commit reverts the logic from ggml-org/llama.cpp#2849, such that
the logprobs of the stop token will always be included in the response,
when logprobs is enabled. From testing, this matches with the behavior
of Fireworks inference server, for both chat completions and text
completions endpoints.

Also fix logprobs param handling for the text completion endpoint.

* Allow viewing conversations even when llama server is down (#16255)

* webui: allow viewing conversations and sending messages even if llama-server is down

- Cached llama.cpp server properties in browser localStorage on startup, persisting successful fetches and reloading them when refresh attempts fail so the chat UI continues to render while the backend is unavailable.
- Cleared the stored server properties when resetting the store to prevent stale capability data after cache-backed operation.
- Kept the original error-splash behavior when no cached props exist so fresh installs still surface a clear failure state instead of rendering stale data.

* feat: Add UI for `props` endpoint unavailable + cleanup logic

* webui: extend cached props fallback to offline errors

Treat connection failures (refused, DNS, timeout, fetch) the same way as
server 5xx so the warning banner shows up when cache is available, instead
of falling back to a full error screen.

* webui: Left the chat form enabled when a server warning is present so operators can keep sending messages

e.g., to restart the backend over llama-swap, even while cached /props data is in use

* refactor: centralize CoT parsing in backend for streaming mode (#16394)

* refactor: unify reasoning handling via backend reasoning_content, drop frontend tag parsing

- Updated the chat message component to surface backend-supplied reasoning via message.thinking while showing the raw assistant content without inline tag scrubbing
- Simplified chat streaming to append content chunks directly, stream reasoning into the message model, and persist any partial reasoning when generation stops
- Refactored the chat service SSE handler to rely on server-provided reasoning_content, removing legacy <think> parsing logic
- Refreshed Storybook data and streaming flows to populate the thinking field explicitly for static and streaming assistant messages

* refactor: implement streaming-aware universal reasoning parser

Remove the streaming mode limitation from --reasoning-format by refactoring
try_parse_reasoning() to handle incremental parsing of <think> tags across
all formats.

- Rework try_parse_reasoning() to track whitespace, partial tags, and
  multiple reasoning segments, allowing proper separation of reasoning_content
  and content in streaming mode
- Parse reasoning tags before tool call handling in content-only and Llama 3.x
  formats to ensure inline <think> blocks are captured correctly
- Change default reasoning_format from 'auto' to 'deepseek' for consistent
  behavior
- Add 'deepseek-legacy' option to preserve old inline behavior when needed
- Update CLI help and documentation to reflect streaming support
- Add parser tests for inline <think>...</think> segments

The parser now continues processing content after </think> closes instead of
stopping, enabling proper message.reasoning_content and message.content
separation in both streaming and non-streaming modes.

Fixes the issue where streaming responses would dump everything (including
post-thinking content) into reasoning_content while leaving content empty.

* refactor: address review feedback from allozaur

- Passed the assistant message content directly to ChatMessageAssistant to drop the redundant derived state in the chat message component
- Simplified chat streaming updates by removing unused partial-thinking handling and persisting partial responses straight from currentResponse
- Refreshed the ChatMessage stories to cover standard and reasoning scenarios without the old THINK-tag parsing examples

Co-authored-by: Aleksander Grygier <aleksander.grygier@gmail.com>

* refactor: restore forced reasoning prefix to pass test-chat ([chat] All tests passed)

- store the exact sequence seen on input when 'thinking_forced_open' enforces a reasoning block
- inject this prefix before the first accumulated segment in 'reasoning_content', then clear it to avoid duplication
- repeat the capture on every new 'start_think' detection to properly handle partial/streaming flows

* refactor: address review feedback from ngxson

* debug: say goodbye to curl -N, hello one-click raw stream

- adds a new checkbox in the WebUI to display raw LLM output without backend parsing or frontend Markdown rendering

* Update tools/server/webui/src/lib/components/app/chat/ChatMessages/ChatMessage.svelte

Co-authored-by: Aleksander Grygier <aleksander.grygier@gmail.com>

* webui: add Storybook example for raw LLM output and scope reasoning format toggle per story

- Added a Storybook example that showcases the chat message component in raw LLM output mode with the provided trace sample
- Updated every ChatMessage story to toggle the disableReasoningFormat setting so the raw-output rendering remains scoped to its own example

* npm run format

* fix: add remark plugin to render raw HTML as literal text (#16505)

* fix: add remark plugin to render raw HTML as literal text

Implemented a missing MDAST stage to neutralize raw HTML like major LLM WebUIs
do ensuring consistent and safe Markdown rendering

Introduced 'remarkLiteralHtml', a plugin that converts raw HTML nodes in the
Markdown AST into plain-text equivalents while preserving indentation and
line breaks. This ensures consistent rendering and prevents unintended HTML
execution, without altering valid Markdown structure

Kept 'remarkRehype' in the pipeline since it performs the required conversion
from MDAST to HAST for KaTeX, syntax highlighting, and HTML serialization

Refined the link-enhancement logic to skip unnecessary DOM rewrites,
fixing a subtle bug where extra paragraphs were injected after the first
line due to full innerHTML reconstruction, and ensuring links open in new
tabs only when required

Final pipeline: remarkGfm -> remarkMath -> remarkBreaks -> remarkLiteralHtml
-> remarkRehype -> rehypeKatex -> rehypeHighlight -> rehypeStringify

* webui: introduce OpenAI-compatible model selector in JSON payload (#16562)

* webui: introduce OpenAI-compatible model selector in JSON payload

* webui: restore OpenAI-Compatible model source of truth and unify metadata capture

This change re-establishes a single, reliable source of truth for the active model:
fully aligned with the OpenAI-Compat API behavior

It introduces a unified metadata flow that captures the model field from both
streaming and non-streaming responses, wiring a new onModel callback through ChatService
The model name is now resolved directly from the API payload rather than relying on
server /props or UI assumptions

ChatStore records and persists the resolved model for each assistant message during
streaming, ensuring consistency across the UI and database
Type definitions for API and settings were also extended to include model metadata
and the onModel callback, completing the alignment with OpenAI-Compat semantics

* webui: address review feedback from allozaur

* webui: address review feedback from allozaur

Normalized streamed model names during chat updates
by trimming input and removing directory components before saving
or persisting them, so the conversation UI shows only the filename

Forced model names within the chat form selector dropdown to render as
a single-line, truncated entry with a tooltip revealing the full name

* webui: toggle displayed model source for legacy vs OpenAI-Compat modes

When the selector is disabled, it falls back to the active server model name from /props

When the model selector is enabled, the displayed model comes from the message metadata
(the one explicitly selected and sent in the request)

Yap Sok Ann 4f9b0ec4f0 Fix logprobs (#787)
This commit is mostly a cherry-pick of ggml-org/llama.cpp#10783, plus
optimization to do partial sort when sorting the logits.

That mainline PR and friends were partially cherry-picked by #723, but
wasn't really in a working state yet.

A couple of additional changes:
* Include timing information in response, which was (unintentionally?)
  done in mainline since ggml-org/llama.cpp#10643.
* Also return the actual logprobs for accepted draft tokens. This is
  still a TODO in mainline [1].

Note that there is a TG performance penalty to return the logprobs, as
we need to sort the logits. By doing partial sort, the penalty is quite
small. Here are some numbers I got using the same prompt:

This PR with partial sort:
* no draft, no logprobs: 12.87 tok/s
* no draft, with logprobs: 12.61 tok/s (2.0% drop)
* with draft, no logprobs: 36.74 tok/s
* with draft, with logprobs: 36.12 tok/s (1.7% drop)

If cherry-pick the full sort from mainline PR:
* no draft, no logprobs: 12.81 tok/s
* no draft, with logprobs: 12.02 tok/s (6.2% drop)
* with draft, no logprobs: 36.59 tok/s
* with draft, with logprobs: 29.08 tok/s (20.5% drop)

- Update documentation to reflect support for Kimi-K2, Qwen3, and DeepSeek R1 models
- Add comprehensive unit tests for DeepSeek R1 reasoning, tool calls, and integration
- Port exact implementation patterns from original llama.cpp for compatibility

Key features:
- Native DeepSeek R1 format: <|tool▁calls▁begin|>function<|tool▁sep|>name```json{}```<|tool▁call▁end|><|tool▁calls▁end|>
- Reasoning content extraction from <think>...</think> tags
- Multiple tool calls support with separate call blocks
- Model detection for deepseek-r1, deepseek_r1 naming patterns

- Add test_qwen3_format_chat_integration() to validate tool injection pipeline
- Test tool injection conditions and system message enhancement
- Verify JSON formatting and anti-preamble instructions
- Add comprehensive test documentation

Tests confirm tool injection works correctly - conversational preamble
issue is not in ik_llama.cpp but likely in UI configuration.

* Fix Qwen3 tool call parsing - pass model name to parser

Server was not passing model name to parse_chat_message_incremental(),
causing Qwen3 to fall back to Kimi-K2 parser and return tool calls
as content instead of proper tool_calls array.

* Fix non-streaming path to use model-specific parsing

Non-streaming responses were hardcoded to use Kimi-K2 format,
causing Qwen3 XML tool calls to be returned as content instead
of proper tool_calls array. Now uses same model detection as
streaming path for consistency.

* Update Qwen3 function call handling in server and tests

- Enhanced server function call detection and response formatting
- Improved test coverage for Qwen3 tool call scenarios
- Refined XML parsing for better tool execution support

* Add DeepSeek-R1 function call parsing support

Implements comprehensive parsing for all 4 DeepSeek-R1 function call formats:
- Format 1: Standard function call syntax (already supported)
- Format 2: Alternative function call patterns (already supported)
- Format 3: Tools array format - function\n```json\n{"tools": [...]}
- Format 4: XML wrapped format - <tool_call>function</think>Name\n```json\n{...}```</tool_call>

Key changes:
- Added parse_deepseek_r1_tools_array() following original parse_prefixed_json_tool_call_array pattern
- Added parse_deepseek_r1_xml_wrapped() following Hermes-2-Pro XML wrapper patterns
- Integrated both parsers into exception handling chain for robust fallback
- Added comprehensive TDD test coverage for all formats
- Anonymized all confidential information while preserving functionality

Resolves tool_calls_count=0 issue where DeepSeek-R1 models generated valid tool calls
but server failed to parse them correctly.

* Update function_calls.md documentation for DeepSeek-R1 Format 4

- Added Format 4 (XML wrapped) documentation with examples
- Updated implementation notes with correct parser order (3→4→1→2)
- Marked all DeepSeek-R1 formats as working (July 2025 update)
- Updated test status for Format 3 and 4 as passing
- Added parse_deepseek_r1_xml_wrapped() function reference
- Corrected implementation file line numbers

* Fix merge conflict in test-function-calls.cpp

- Removed incomplete merge conflict marker from line 3027
- Ensured all tests compile and pass successfully
- All DeepSeek-R1 formats (1-4) working correctly
- All streaming and content cleaning tests passing

* Fix DeepSeek R1 parsing issue with responses wrapped in think tags

Restore missing consume_rest() call from working PR #648 implementation.
When responses don't contain tool calls, remaining content after reasoning
parsing must be preserved as displayable content.

Fixes issue where entire responses wrapped in <think> tags resulted in
empty content output.

* Implement proper reasoning handling following original llama.cpp patterns

- Add missing reasoning_format and reasoning_in_content fields to common_chat_syntax
- Update try_parse_reasoning to match original llama.cpp logic exactly
- Add TDD test case with reasoning_in_content=true for DeepSeek R1
- Following TDD: test should now pass with proper syntax configuration

Based on original llama.cpp implementation patterns.

* TDD SUCCESS: Fix DeepSeek R1 thinking tag termination issue

 Test passes with reasoning_in_content=true configuration
- Content properly preserved: '<think>content</think>' displays fully
- Reasoning field empty as expected
- Following TDD: test-first approach validates the fix

Next: Update server to automatically apply this configuration.

* Complete server integration fix for DeepSeek R1 thinking tag termination

- Server now automatically sets reasoning_in_content=true for DeepSeek R1 models
- Fixes issue where responses wrapped in <think> tags appear empty to users

* Add TDD test case for DeepSeek R1 thinking tag termination issue

- Test reproduces the exact failure scenario reported by user
- Validates that reasoning_in_content=true fixes the issue
- Demonstrates empty content problem and working solution

* Add remaining TDD test changes for DeepSeek R1 thinking tag fix

* Add debug output after upstream merge

* Remove temporary benchmark and debug files

- Remove tests/benchmark-progressive-parsing.cpp (development tool, not part of core functionality)
- Remove tests/reproduce_bug.sh (debugging script, not needed for PR)

Anton Sokolchenko 05a61510b9 Fix Qwen3 content extraction breaking code formatting (#661)
Problem:
- qwen3::extract_content_during_parsing() used aggressive regex to collapse multiple newlines
- This broke proper code formatting (e.g., PEP 8's 2 empty lines between functions)
- Affected non-tool-call streaming output where formatting is critical

Solution:
- Replace aggressive std::regex_replace(R"(\n\s*\n)", "\n") with gentle string_strip()
- Follow original llama.cpp patterns: only trim leading/trailing whitespace
- Preserve internal formatting including multiple newlines
- Add proper include for common.h to access string_strip function

Changes:
- examples/server/parsers/qwen3_parser.hpp: Replace whitespace cleanup with string_strip()
- tests/test-function-calls.cpp: Add test_qwen3_whitespace_preservation() to prevent regression

Testing:
- PEP 8 compliance: 2 empty lines between functions preserved
- Tool call parsing: All Qwen3 tests continue to pass
- No regressions: Existing functionality maintained
- Follows original llama.cpp whitespace handling patterns
